Greta Thunberg Faces Civil Disobedience Charges in Sweden for Climate Protests
Greta Thunberg, a 21-year-old climate activist, has been charged with civil disobedience by Swedish prosecutors for ignoring police orders to leave two climate demonstrations blocking the country's parliament in March.
The protests, which took place from March 11 and continued for several days, saw Thunberg and other activists blocking the main entrance to the parliament.
Despite the blockade, politicians were still able to enter through side entrances.
The court date for the case has been set for May 8.
Greta Thunberg, a climate activist, was physically removed and arrested by police in London on March 12 and 14 for refusing to leave the protest site.
She has been charged with two counts of civil disobedience and has denied the charges.
In February, a London court dismissed a public order case against Thunberg and others, ruling that police had imposed "unlawful" conditions before arresting demonstrators.
Thunberg has previously been fined by Swedish courts for civil disobedience at climate protests in July and October 2023.
