Jeff Bezos Joins Investor Group Closing In on $6 Billion Liverpool FC Stake
The Amazon founder, Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, and investor Amit Bhatia are in advanced talks to acquire a 30 percent stake in the Premier League club from Fenway Sports Group.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has joined an international investment consortium in advanced talks to acquire a 30 percent minority stake in Liverpool Football Club, in a transaction that values the Premier League titan at approximately $6 billion (£4.4 billion).
The investor group is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.
Controlling owner Fenway Sports Group is preparing to finalize the agreement, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.
Under the proposed terms, the consortium will pay roughly £1.35 billion to secure nearly one-third of the six-time European champions.
The deal brings together some of the world's highest-net-worth individuals, combining Bezos's personal fortune—estimated at $257 billion—with Saverin's $32 billion wealth and Bhatia's sports management background.
Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, recently divested his shares in Queens Park Rangers to comply with league ownership regulations governing multi-club holdings.
For Boston-based Fenway Sports Group, led by John W. Henry, the transaction highlights a monumental expansion in football asset valuations.
FSG bought Liverpool out of financial turbulence in 2010 for £300 million, overseeing an era that brought two Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League victory, alongside record revenues topping £700 million in the 2024–25 season.
Having previously sold a 3 percent stake to American private equity firm Dynasty Equity in 2023 at a $4.5 billion valuation, FSG has maintained that it remains committed to retaining majority control of Anfield.
The venture marks Bezos's first direct investment in European football, following Amazon's previous acquisition of live Premier League and Champions League streaming rights.
While primary control remains with FSG, the influx of ultra-high-net-worth partners is expected to strengthen Liverpool's long-term commercial posture and infrastructure capabilities.
Financial advisers, including Deloitte, are finalizing documentation, with completion expected within weeks.
