Joint Base Charleston, a primary military installation in South Carolina, has been officially renamed in honor of veteran U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.

The redesignation recognizes the Republican senator's decades of legislative work on defense policy as well as his thirty-three years of military service in the United States Air Force Reserve, where he served as a judge advocate.

The official renaming marks a prominent transition for the strategic airlift and naval installation, which hosts the 437th and 315th Airlift Wings along with major naval support facilities.

Federal lawmakers and defense authorities finalized the name change following legislative provisions incorporated into federal defense authorization measures, citing Graham’s role in securing modernization funding and defense infrastructure investments across the region.

Military leadership confirmed that administrative records, signage, and installation logistics will transition to the new designation while operational commands remain at full readiness.

The base remains one of the largest employers in the region, supporting more than twenty thousand active-duty service members, reservists, civilian personnel, and military families.

Following the formal ceremony, base authorities will begin updating physical identifiers and digital registries across federal agency databases over the coming weeks.
