Judge Orders $9,000 Fine Against Trump for Gag Order Violations in Hush Money Case
Judge Juan Merchan fined Donald Trump $9,000 for violating a gag order in the hush money trial.
Trump was held in contempt of court for publicly attacking witnesses, jurors, and court staff and their relatives.
The New York judge fined Trump $1,000 for each of the nine violations and instructed him to remove offending posts from Truth Social and a campaign website by Tuesday afternoon.
Further violations could result in jail time.
A judge warned former President Trump during his trial for business record falsification that he could be sent to jail if he continues to violate the gag order.
Trump is the first former US president to face criminal charges and his court appearances are limiting his campaign time before the upcoming election against President Biden.
A Republican is under investigation for allegedly falsifying business records to pay his lawyer, Michael Cohen, who in turn paid $130,000 to adult film star Stephanie Clifford (Daniels) in 2016.
Daniels had threatened to reveal an alleged sexual encounter with the Republican, who was running for president against Hillary Clinton at the time, which could have damaged his campaign.
