Prince Harry Becomes a U.S. Resident, Meghan Markle Confused

In a dramatic step that moves him closer to complete royal disconnection, Prince Harry has become a resident of the United States, and Meghan is again in the spotlight with comparisons to Wallis Simpson, for whom King Edward VIII abdicated the throne.
"Meghan did not understand the step that Harry took," it was reported.

Further Drama in the Royal Family: Prince Harry Confirmed Last Weekend That He Became a U.S. Resident De Facto - which means, of course, that he gave up his British citizenship. Travalyst Ltd, a travel company that is 75% owned by Harry, announced to the British authorities that the prince has now become a U.S. resident.

Harry's decision isn't really surprising, as just last February, after King Charles was diagnosed with cancer, the Duke of Sussex flew to visit his ill father—a meeting that reportedly lasted about 45 minutes. He returned to the United States the day after. A few days later, Harry was interviewed on Good Morning America and was asked if he planned to become an American citizen. The prince took a deep breath before answering that he was considering it. "I don't know what's stopping me," he said.

Harry's decision to become a U.S. resident marks a significant step towards an absolute disconnection from the monarchy, while his wife, Meghan Markle, becomes increasingly likened to Wallis Simpson, the love of King Edward VIII—who abdicated the throne and Britain for love.

"When Edward VIII abdicated in 1936, a significant portion of the British public believed that his American partner 'stole their prince.' She may indeed have stolen him—but she didn't know what to do with him afterwards," said Sean O'Grady, deputy editor of The Independent, adding, "It's really unclear what Meghan plans to do with Harry; she didn't understand the step he took."

Let's pause to note that Harry's timing to become an American resident is quite poor, considering that next month he is expected to return to Britain for the Invictus Games events, but mainly to visit his father and his sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, who are both ill with cancer.

Initially, it was reported that Harry had asked his wife, the Duchess, to join him in Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but a knowledgeable source clarified that Markle has no intention of returning to London—not before the royal family apologizes to her. "Harry would like to reconcile with his family members but fully supports his wife," explained royal expert Tom Quinn to The Mirror. "Until Meghan feels that the royal family is nice enough to her and also apologizes for the past—it won't happen."

So what led Harry to take such a dramatic step? Sources close to the matter say that his father, King Charles's decision to "throw him out" of Frogmore Cottage—the home the Sussexes received as a gift from Queen Elizabeth for their wedding—was the last straw that broke the prince's back. "Harry was furious about being removed from Frogmore; he felt his father had no right to do so," explained Tom Quinn. "He refused to accept that his choice to stop being a royal meant giving up his royal residence."

Remember that immediately after the Sussexes announced they were stepping back from the monarchy, a move that was dubbed "Megxit," Prince Harry repeatedly stated one sentence - "Britain is my home and a place I love. That will never change." Harry has now proven once again that words and actions are indeed separate. "Harry needs to give up his title and see what it's like to live in the real world as plain Harry and Meghan," claimed royal expert Amanda Platell.
