US Sanctions Indian Companies for Facilitating Iran-Russia UAV Trade
The US Department of Treasury imposed sanctions on over a dozen companies, individuals, and vessels, including three from India, for facilitating the sale of Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Russia's war in Ukraine.
These entities have played a central role in financing and facilitating the clandestine transfers of Iranian UAVs to Russia, in violation of US and international sanctions.
The text discusses three Indian companies, Zen Shipping, Port India Private Limited, and Sea Art Ship Management (OPC) Private Limited, that have been sanctioned for supporting Sahara Thunder, a front company for Iran's commercial activities.
Sahara Thunder, which is linked to Iran's Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL), uses a vast shipping network to sell and ship Iranian commodities to countries including China, Russia, and Venezuela.
The text specifically mentions a time-charter contract between Sahara Thunder and India-based Zen Shipping and Port India Private Limited for the Cook Islands-flagged vessel CHEM.
Sahara Thunder, a company using the maritime transportation service CHEM, has shipped commodities from Iran since 2022.
Arsang Safe Trading Co., based in Iran, provided ship management services for several of these shipments.
Asia Marine Crown Agency, also based in Iran, served as the port agent in Bandar Abbas during these transactions.
The Treasury Department has identified these companies in relation to Sahara Thunder's shipping activities.
