UW claims a 47-point victory behind strong playmakers and a deep, balanced roster
The University of Washington women’s basketball team kicked off its 2025-26 season with an emphatic 90-43 home victory over Seattle University on Monday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.

The 47-point margin established a new series high for the matchup and showcased the Huskies’ depth and offensive balance.

In her first start for the Huskies, Avery Howell set a strong tone, drilling three sequential three-pointers and finishing a perfect 5-for-5 from the field en route to 18 points, tying her career high.

Sayvia Sellers led the squad in scoring and distributed six assists, with her third assist marking the 200th of her collegiate career.

Fresh faces made immediate impact: Yulia Grabovskaia, Brynn McGaughy, Nina Cain and Sienna Harvey all debuted for UW. Harvey impressed in her first collegiate appearance, registering 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field.

Remarkably, eleven Washington players recorded at least one field goal, and every Husky pulled down at least one rebound.

The Huskies asserted control in the second quarter, outscoring the Redhawks 26-10, and opened the third quarter with four consecutive lay-ups that extended the lead.

Washington shot 52.2 % from the field and 37.5 % from beyond the arc, assisting on more than half their made shots.

Defensively, UW held Seattle U to 28.3 % shooting, with no quarter yielding more than 13 points for the visitors.

The Huskies also recorded 11 steals and 9 blocks.

Washington will take the floor next on Monday, November 10 when they host Montana at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time in Alaska Airlines Arena.

The opening triumph sets a confident tone for the season ahead.
