Alfa Romeo Renames 'Milano' Model to 'Junior' to Avoid Italian Government Backlash
Alfa Romeo, a car manufacturer under Stellantis, has announced that it will change the name of its new model from "Milano" to "Junior" in order to improve relations with the Italian government.
The decision was made following criticism from Italian Industry Minister Adolfo Urso, who argued that the use of an Italian-sounding name for a vehicle built in Poland violated Italian law.
The law in question aims to prevent the misrepresentation of products as being Italian when they are not produced in Italy.
Alfa Romeo's CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, acknowledged that the name "Milano" met all legal requirements but decided to change it to "Junior" as a gesture of goodwill towards the Italian government.
