Denmark's Foreign Minister Rejects U.S. Claim Over Greenland

Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen affirms that Greenland will not be transferred to the United States, asserting the territory's sovereignty and the right of its people to determine their future.
Denmark's Foreign Minister, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's expressed desire to acquire Greenland, calling the notion 'unrealistic.' Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Rasmussen stated, 'Trump will not have Greenland.

Greenland is Greenland.

And the Greenlandic people are a people, also in the sense of international law.' He emphasized that it is ultimately the people of Greenland who have the right to determine their own future, reinforcing the territory's sovereignty and self-determination.

Rasmussen's comments come in response to Trump's longstanding interest in Greenland, a Danish autonomous territory with vast natural resources, including mineral deposits that have gained increasing strategic importance.

While the U.S. has previously shown interest in Greenland’s resources, including its rare earth minerals, Rasmussen has made clear that such decisions are for Greenland and Denmark, not external powers, to decide.

The Danish foreign minister reiterated that Denmark respects Greenland’s autonomy and that the decision about the territory’s status lies with the Greenlandic people.
