Human Remains Confirmed in Search for Missing Queensland Teen Pheobe Bishop

Community Unites in Support as Investigations Lead to Discovery of Remains and Arrests
Queensland Police have confirmed the discovery of human remains near Good Night Scrub National Park during the ongoing search for missing teenager Pheobe Bishop, who has been unaccounted for since May 15. The remains were located on Friday afternoon around 2:30 PM, prompting the establishment of a crime scene in the area near Gin Gin in Bundaberg.

Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield reported that the remains have been identified as human, causing deep distress for Pheobe's family.

Further forensic testing and examination are planned to formally identify the remains, which are crucial to the ongoing investigation.

Mansfield emphasized that this development represents a significant step in the efforts to bring Pheobe home.

Pheobe Bishop, a 17-year-old resident of Gin Gin, was last seen near Bundaberg airport after she had arranged a trip to Western Australia to visit her boyfriend.

Police believe that she was allegedly murdered and that her body was moved multiple times after her death.

The investigation has led to the arrest of Pheobe's housemates, James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, both of whom have been charged with one count of murder and two counts of interfering with a corpse.

They have been remanded in custody following their appearance at Bundaberg Magistrates Court.

Police allege that the pair drove Pheobe in a grey Hyundai close to the airport, but that no one exited the vehicle.

Following the announcement of the discovery of the remains, the local community has rallied in support of Pheobe's family.

Floral tributes have been placed outside the home she shared with her housemates, and a candlelight vigil has been arranged for Sunday evening to honor the young woman.

Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn expressed disbelief at the tragic events, stating that the community is known for its kindness and acceptance.

She called for unity and support among residents as they navigate the emotional aftermath of this incident.

Police have stated that they utilized telecommunications data and other information to successfully locate the area where the remains were found, which is not far from the original search site.

The investigation continues as authorities work to gather further evidence.
