INDYCAR and Monumental Sports Forge Partnership to Power Historic Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C.
The first-ever street race on the National Mall, set for August 21–23, gains a major promotional and commercial partner in Monumental Sports & Entertainment
INDYCAR and Monumental Sports & Entertainment have announced a strategic partnership to support the planning, promotion and commercial development of the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., scheduled for August 21–23 to mark America’s 250th anniversary.
The agreement designates Monumental Sports & Entertainment as the official marketing, sponsorship and corporate hospitality agency for the landmark event, which will take place on the National Mall and the streets of the nation’s capital, introducing motorsport to a historic urban setting.
Under the collaboration, Monumental Sports & Entertainment will apply its expertise as one of the leading integrated sports and entertainment companies in the United States—home to professional teams such as the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics—to drive fan engagement, secure commercial partners and manage hospitality offerings throughout the Freedom 250 weekend.
Officials said the company’s experience hosting large-scale events across the Washington metropolitan area will ensure broad outreach and a memorable spectator experience.
Bud Denker, chairman of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C. and president of Penske Corporation, described the partnership as an opportunity to make history by bringing the NTT INDYCAR SERIES to the heart of the U.S. capital.
Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations and Chief Commercial Officer at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, said the race will be more than a competition, framing it as a patriotic celebration that places fans at the centre of one of the nation’s most iconic sporting experiences.
The partnership follows an executive order from President Donald J. Trump directing the U.S. Departments of the Interior and Transportation to designate an official racecourse through Washington, D.C., including the National Mall.
Organisers have said the Freedom 250 will be free to the general public and is expected to offer scenic views of American monuments while showcasing high-speed racing.
INDYCAR and Monumental will work in coordination with federal agencies and the District’s mayoral office to finalise the course details.
Broadcasting arrangements will include live network coverage through FOX Sports, aligning the event with the broader NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule.
