Police Interrupt Ed Sheeran's Street Performance in Bengaluru
The artist discusses the police involvement during a scheduled street performance before his concert.
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran encountered an unforeseen disruption during a street performance in Bengaluru on [insert date], as local police intervened shortly after he commenced singing.
Sheeran took to Instagram to explain the situation, stating, "We had permission to busk, by the way. Therefore, our performance in that specific location was pre-arranged. It wasn't merely us showing up unannounced. All good though. See you at the show tonight x."
The event occurred on Church Street, celebrated for its lively ambiance, but was stopped by local authorities who claimed there was no official permission for the event.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police for Central Bengaluru, Shekar T. Tekkannanavar, elaborated on the police's actions. He mentioned that a member of Sheeran's organizing team had approached him for permission, which he declined. This decision was influenced by the fact that Church Street is a heavily trafficked area and aligned with a high court order that mandated evacuations at that site.
A video that circulated on social media showed Sheeran starting to perform his popular song "Shape of You," only to have the performance interrupted moments later when police cut off his microphone.
Sheeran's representatives contended that the busking was an authorized event, but this claim was countered by the police's assertion that no formal approval had been granted.
Sheeran's trip to India is part of his ongoing _The Mathematics_ tour, which has featured performances in various cities such as Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai, with a significant concert planned in Bengaluru later that same day.
