Washington Spirit Reveal Initial 2026 Preseason Roster Ahead of NWSL Campaign
Spirit name 28-player group for Florida training, featuring international talent and recent signings
The Washington Spirit have announced their initial roster for the 2026 preseason as the National Women’s Soccer League club prepares for training ahead of the new campaign.
The 28-player squad includes four goalkeepers, ten defenders, six midfielders and eight forwards who reported for preseason training in Florida this week, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Goalkeepers listed are Kaylie Collins, Aubrey Kingsbury, Sandy MacIver and Sara Wojdelko.
Defenders on the roster include Rebeca Bernal, Gabby Carle, Lucia Di Guglielmo, Madison Haugen, Casey Krueger, Paige Metayer, Esme Morgan, Tara Rudd, Élisabeth Tsé and Kate Wiesner.
Six midfielders — Deborah Abiodun, Croix Bethune, Hal Hershfelt, Leicy Santos, Molly Skurcenski and Andi Sullivan — were also named.
Eight forwards comprise Tamara Bolt, Sofia Cantore, Emma Gaines-Ramos, Ashley Hatch, Rosemonde Kouassi, Claudia Martínez, Gift Monday and Trinity Rodman.
The roster reflects recent personnel moves by the Spirit, including the signing of Paraguayan forward Claudia Martínez to a multi-year contract and two short-term injury replacement additions, Madison Haugen and Molly Skurcenski.
Martinez scored ten goals last season with Club Olimpia in Paraguay prior to her transfer.
The preseason list also features players returning from loan spells and maternity leave designations, with squad designators indicating such statuses.
General Manager Nathan Minion said the club is looking forward to developing the group through the three weeks of training in Florida before returning to the Washington, D.C. area in mid-February.
The Spirit will open their 2026 regular season at home on March 13 against the Portland Thorns, a rematch of their 2025 semifinal encounter.
The team reached the NWSL Championship match in each of the previous two seasons, underscoring continuity and ambition entering the new campaign.
