Gabriel Perez, President Donald Trump's longtime teleprompter operator, is suspected of using early access to draft speeches to place profitable wagers on whether particular words and phrases would be mentioned.
Gabriel Perez, the longtime teleprompter operator for United States President Donald Trump, is suspected of using early access to draft speeches to bet on their content.
Perez apparently earned more than $100,000 through the wagers.
The bets were placed on the financial prediction market Kalshi, where users can wager on whether particular words or phrases will be mentioned during a public speech.
The suspicions involve more than a dozen speeches delivered over a three-month period, including the State of the Union address in February.
Kalshi identified the suspicious activity and referred the information to the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission, known as the C-F-T-C, for review.
Perez is now engaged in settlement discussions with regulators.
