Crucial Discussion Before Trump's Return to the White House
US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet on Saturday at the APEC summit in Lima, Peru.
This meeting will mark their third overall and second since talks in California last year.
The discussion is likely to be their last as sitting presidents before Donald Trump assumes office again.
Trump has signaled a more confrontational stance towards Beijing for his upcoming term, including appointing China hawks to key positions and proposing significant tariffs on Chinese imports, which raises concerns of a potential trade war.
While Biden's focus is on managing the US-China competition responsibly, it is unclear if advice will be exchanged regarding Trump's approach.
Following the APEC summit, Biden will make history by being the first US president to visit the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, then attend the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.
