El Chapo's Son Did Not Kidnap Fellow Gangster, Says Lawyer
The son of jailed Sinaloa Cartel kingpin Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, Joaquin Guzman Lopez, did not kidnap fellow drug lord Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, according to the Guzman family’s lawyer. They were both arrested by US agents in New Mexico, and conflicting accounts emerged about the arrest circumstances. Both men have pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking charges in US courts.
The son of imprisoned Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, Joaquin Guzman Lopez, did not kidnap prominent drug lord Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, according to the Guzman family’s lawyer, Jose Luis Gonzalez.
The assertion follows reports suggesting that Guzman Lopez betrayed Zambada to the United States, leading to their arrest.
Both were detained by US agents at a small airfield in New Mexico last week, an operation executed without Mexican government knowledge.
Lawyer Jose Luis Gonzalez stated on Radio Formula that the notion of a kidnapping is 'out of the question,' emphasizing that Los Chapitos, El Chapo's four sons, adhere to their father's rules.
This statement contradicts Zambada’s lawyer, Frank Perez, who claimed that Guzman Lopez, along with men in military uniforms, forcibly took Zambada to the US.
Both Guzman Lopez and Zambada have denied drug trafficking charges in US courts.
