Suspected E. Coli Contamination Linked to McDonald's
McDonald's is facing an E. coli outbreak believed to be linked to slivered onions from its supplier Taylor Farms, which has recalled onion batches from its Colorado facility. The outbreak has affected several states, causing illnesses and at least one death, prompting McDonald's to remove Quarter Pounders from some U.S. restaurants. Health authorities are still investigating the situation.
McDonald's Corp., facing an E. coli outbreak, attributes the issue to slivered onions supplied by Taylor Farms.
The supplier is recalling certain yellow onion batches from its Colorado facility, though no E. coli traces have been confirmed.
Taylor Farms has acted 'out of an abundance of caution' and is working with the FDA and CDC.
The outbreak has resulted in dozens of illnesses, 10 hospitalizations, and one death across 10 states.
McDonald's has withdrawn Quarter Pounders from 20% of its U.S. locations while continuing the investigation.
US Foods, another major distributor, has issued its own recall notice for Taylor Farms' onions to its client base, including the Illegal Pete's chain in Arizona and Colorado.
The CDC and FDA continue to investigate, warning that more illnesses may emerge.
