Trump Labels Pro-Palestine Protesters as 'Terrorists' Following Vandalism at Turnberry Golf Resort
The former US President reacts to vandalism at his Scottish golf course amid pro-Palestine protests.
Donald Trump has referred to members of a pro-Palestine group accused of vandalizing his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland as 'terrorists.' This strong language follows an incident at the five-star resort, where the clubhouse was vandalized with graffiti, including the phrase 'Gaza is not 4 sale,' and portions of the golf course were disturbed.
The vandalism occurred earlier this month during a weekend marked by pro-Palestine protests across the United Kingdom.
In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump expressed gratitude to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the UK law enforcement for their response to the incident, stating, 'You cannot let things like this attack happen.' Trump inaccurately claimed that three individuals were imprisoned as a result of police inquiries related to the incident.
However, only one individual, a 33-year-old named Kieran Robson, has been charged with malicious mischief.
Robson appeared in court at Ayr sheriff court on Monday, where he made no plea.
He has been released on bail pending a further court date.
Additionally, a 75-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the investigation but have since been released pending further inquiries.
The incident is seen as a response to controversial remarks made by Trump regarding the Gaza region, which incited significant backlash.
In his earlier comments, Trump suggested the United States could take over Gaza and 'own it,' remarks that have drawn allegations of endorsing policies akin to ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
The group Palestine Action, known for its direct action campaigns, released video footage showing the graffiti on the golf course, framing the vandalism as a response to what they characterize as the US administration's intentions towards Gaza.
A spokesperson for Palestine Action condemned Trump's statements regarding Gaza as an incitement to violence against Palestinians.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson for Trump Turnberry dismissed the acts of vandalism as 'childish, criminal acts.' The spokesperson emphasized the resort's status as a 'national treasure' and expressed confidence that it will continue to be recognized as a premier destination in the world of golf.
As investigations continue, Police Scotland has confirmed that inquiries into the vandalism will proceed.
