Boeing is set to lay off around 2,200 employees in Washington state, part of a plan to cut 10% of its global workforce.
The layoffs, set to begin on December 20, follow the company's production quality issues and a recent 50-day strike at its Renton and Everett plants near Seattle.
These facilities are key production sites for Boeing's 737, 777, and military aircraft.
The announcement comes in compliance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, requiring advance notice to local authorities.
Boeing employs approximately 67,000 people in Washington, home to some of its oldest factories.
The affected employees, including 438 members of the SPEEA engineers' union, will receive benefits and health insurance for up to three months post-layoff.
