Xi Jinping Advocates for Peace in Ukraine and Gaza During Brazil Visit
Chinese and Brazilian Leaders Urge for Ceasefire in Conflict Zones
During his state visit to Brasilia, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for efforts to end the war in Ukraine and a ceasefire in Gaza.
Meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Xi highlighted China's partnership with Brazil in advocating peace, diplomacy, and dialogue globally.
Their joint peace proposal for Ukraine has been supported by Russia but remains unendorsed by Kyiv and its Western allies.
Xi also reiterated the call for a ceasefire in Gaza, aligning with a recent G20 summit statement in Rio.
Despite a UN Security Council proposal for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, it was vetoed by the United States.
Xi's visit to Brazil marked a strengthening of China-Brazil relations, with 35 cooperation agreements signed, covering multiple sectors like agriculture and technology.
These developments reflect China's growing influence as US-EU dynamics shift.
Brazil remains China's largest trading partner in Latin America, prompting potential alignment with China's Belt and Road Initiative.
Though no formal commitment was made during Xi's visit, both leaders stressed cooperation in infrastructure development.
Additionally, Brazil will host the BRICS summit next July, a gathering that Xi plans to attend, further solidifying bilateral relations.
