Israeli Commander Resigns After Hamas' October 7 Attack

JERUSALEM: Israel's army announced that Brigadier General Avi Rosenfeld, commander of the 143rd Division, has resigned over his failure to prevent the October 7 attack by Palestinian militants.
Rosenfeld expressed his intention to end his service in a letter, acknowledging his responsibility for security lapses on the Israeli-Gaza border.
Previously, in April, Major General Aharon Haliva, former military intelligence chief, also resigned, citing a similar inability to thwart the attacks.
The October 7 attack, one of the bloodiest in the Gaza conflict, resulted in 1,194 Israeli deaths, prompting a retaliatory offensive that killed at least 37,084 people in Gaza.
