Zelenskyy Requests 'Robust Security Assurances' from Russia to Conclude the Conflict in Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes the necessity of security guarantees and the avoidance of territorial concessions in any forthcoming peace negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has affirmed that former U.S. President Donald Trump needs to obtain 'strong security guarantees' from Russia to conclude the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
In a recent interview, Zelenskyy highlighted the necessity for assurances that Russia would refrain from future assaults on Ukraine, especially in the eastern territories currently occupied by Russian forces.
He conveyed his willingness to engage in diplomatic discussions, but only if those guarantees were secured, firmly rejecting any concessions regarding the occupied regions.
Zelenskyy emphasized that it is incumbent upon Trump and European leaders to facilitate such an agreement, underscoring that peace initiatives necessitate both diplomatic involvement and explicit assurances to avert further escalation.
Trump, who has consistently expressed his intention to end the war, has raised previous concerns regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s readiness to negotiate.
The Ukrainian president also recognized the significant influence of U.S. support, which constitutes 30% of global military assistance to Ukraine, cautioning that a withdrawal of this support could result in a Russian victory and possibly lead to a wider conflict.
Zelenskyy pointed out that while some critics, particularly within the Republican Party, have opposed ongoing funding, U.S. support is crucial for Ukraine's resistance efforts.
