The reigning NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, will not make a traditional visit to the White House during their current trip to Washington, citing scheduling constraints despite ongoing coordination with President Donald Trump’s administration.

A team spokesperson confirmed that discussions had taken place regarding a celebratory event to mark the Thunder’s championship victory.

However, both sides were ultimately unable to align schedules, with the team stating that “the timing just didn’t work out.” The franchise expressed appreciation for the communication and engagement with the White House.

The decision comes as the Thunder travel to the US capital for a regular-season game against the Washington Wizards, a window that has historically provided an opportunity for championship teams to participate in ceremonial visits.

The longstanding tradition, dating back decades, has often been organised around such visits to Washington.

While the absence of a visit breaks with custom, it reflects evolving logistical realities in modern professional sport, where tightly packed schedules and commercial commitments can complicate coordination.
