Sophia Park sets a record by achieving the feat at just 17 years old
Sophia Park, a 17-year-old prodigy, has become the youngest person to pass the California State Bar Exam, surpassing the previous record held by her brother, Peter Park.
On November 8, 2024, Sophia Park learned she passed the July exam, taken by over 8,000 candidates.
At the time, she was 17 years and 8 months old, compared to her brother's record of 17 years and 11 months.
The California State Bar Exam is known for its difficulty, with a passing rate of under 54 percent in the most recent round.
The Tulare County District Attorney's Office, her future employer, expressed pride in her accomplishment, with District Attorney Tim Ward commenting on her impressive achievements.
Sophia's educational journey has been remarkable, completing high school, college, and law school within four years via advanced online courses.
She began law school at 13 at Northwestern California University School of Law, while also attending junior high at Oxford Academy in Cypress, California.
Sophia leveraged a provision in California law, taking College-Level Proficiency Exams to enter law school earlier than usual.
At 16, she gained experience with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and has worked as a law clerk at Tulare County since 2024.
Sophia Park is set to start her career as a practicing attorney in March 2025 when she turns 18.
She aspires to work as a prosecutor, starting at the Tulare County District Attorney's Office.
