Chinese Consulate in Myanmar Attacked with Explosive Device
China's consulate in Myanmar's city of Mandalay was attacked with an explosive device. The incident caused damage but no injuries were reported. Authorities are investigating the attack attributed to terrorists while increasing security measures at the site.
The Chinese consulate in Mandalay, Myanmar was targeted with an explosive device on Friday evening, around 7 PM local time (1230 GMT).
Although the explosion damaged the roof of the two-storey building, no casualties were reported.
Local media outlets have said that a grenade was thrown at the compound.
The attack comes amid Myanmar's ongoing political turmoil following the military coup against Aung San Suu Kyi's government in 2021.
The Myanmar junta accused 'terrorists' of the attack and is investigating the incident with consulate officials while enhancing security measures.
China, a key military ally of Myanmar, maintains connections with both the junta and ethnic groups opposed to it in northern Shan state.
The Chinese embassy in Yangon has not provided comments on the matter.
