Heatwave Expected Across South-East Australia This Weekend

Temperatures to soar near 40°C before a significant cool change early next week.
South-east Australia is bracing for a notable heatwave this weekend, with temperatures in some areas expected to approach 40°C. This weather event will be followed by a sharp drop in temperatures across the region.

In Victoria, temperatures are projected to peak at 36°C in Melbourne on Saturday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Following this brief heatwave, conditions are expected to cool significantly, with Monday's temperatures dipping as low as 17°C, marking it as potentially the coldest day of the year.

Mildura, located near the New South Wales border, anticipates a high of 41°C on Saturday afternoon, which will subsequently fall to approximately 22°C by Monday.

New South Wales will also experience elevated temperatures.

Sydney's forecast indicates a high of 32°C on Saturday, escalating to 36°C on Sunday.

By Monday, the temperature is expected to decrease to 24°C, with a gradual rise predicted as the week progresses.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe heatwave warnings for areas including Batemans Bay, Eden, and Nowra along the south coast of New South Wales, where temperatures are anticipated to hover around 36°C.

In South Australia, Adelaide is forecast to reach 39°C on Saturday, with a significant temperature drop expected, culminating at around 22°C on Monday.

The Australian Capital Territory is set to experience a high of 35°C in Canberra on Saturday, with nighttime temperatures expected to fall to single digits.

A cooler Monday is predicted with highs around 22°C before temperatures increase again later in the week.

Tasmania's weather will be relatively milder, with Hobart looking at a maximum temperature of 25°C on Saturday, followed by a decline to about 17°C on Monday, accompanied by cloudy and showery conditions.
