Investigation Underway in Deaths of British Couple in France: Murder-Suicide Theory Explored
Andrew Searle and Dawn Kerr found deceased in their home, prompting police investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
On February 6, the bodies of Andrew Searle, 60, and his wife Dawn Kerr, also in her 60s, were discovered at their residence in Les Pesquies, a hamlet in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Aveyron, in the south of France.
The couple's deaths are currently being investigated as a potential murder-suicide.
Law enforcement officials reported that Ms. Kerr was found with multiple injuries to her head, while Mr. Searle was discovered hanged, showing no defensive wounds.
Following the alarming find, the local police initiated a probe to ascertain whether the couple’s deaths resulted from a domestic incident or if there was involvement from an external party.
Prosecutor Fabrice Belargent has stated that preliminary analyses have not indicated any evidence of third-party involvement in the case.
The couple were known to be the mother and stepfather of actor and musician Callum Kerr, recognized for his roles in Channel 4’s 'Hollyoaks' and Netflix’s 'Virgin River.' The family publicly addressed the situation on social media, reflecting on the couple’s character and circumstances.
Friends and acquaintances of the Searles have disputed the murder-suicide narrative.
In an interview, a couple who were close to the family expressed disbelief, attributing the couple's comfortable lifestyle and rapport with locals as incompatible with suggestions of financial distress or any underlying issues.
Andrew Searle's professional background includes two decades of service within police forces and the Serious Fraud Office, specializing in the fight against organized crime and terrorism.
Following his retirement from Barclays Bank in Scotland in 2015, Searle relocated with his family to France.
Investigators observed a theory suggesting that the couple may have been targeted in a gang-related incident, referencing Mr. Searle's history in combating organized crime.
Sources within the investigation indicated that there is a concern they may have been pursued by individuals associated with criminal activities stemming from the United Kingdom.
A formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the couple's deaths has been opened, with authorities prioritizing the investigation into potential criminal involvement due to Mr. Searle’s previous professional associations.
