Trump Warns of Tariffs on EU Products, Labels Bloc a ‘Disgrace’ in Trade Matters.
U.S. President Donald Trump intensifies conflicts with the European Union, indicating possible tariffs in light of trade imbalances.
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to implement tariffs on products from the European Union, calling the bloc's trade practices 'an atrocity.' In statements made on Sunday, Trump pointed to a trade deficit exceeding $300 billion, however, official statistics indicate that the U.S. goods trade deficit with the EU in 2023 was approximately €155.8 billion, balanced by a €104 billion surplus in services.
Trump's comments, which also criticized the U.K. for its trading policies, highlight rising tensions regarding global trade relations.
The U.S. president, who earlier in the week imposed tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China, has faced international criticism.
A spokesperson for the European Commission warned that the EU would take a strong stance if tariffs are imposed unjustly on EU products.
