China Warns Philippines Regarding Taiwan Remarks and US Fighter Jet Sale
Beijing cautions Manila about making baseless statements regarding Taiwan and endangering regional stability following the US's approval of the sale of F-16 fighter jets.
The Chinese foreign ministry has urged specific individuals in the Philippines to stop making unfounded remarks about Taiwan, warning that those who do so will face repercussions.
This caution was communicated by ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a routine press conference, addressing statements made by Philippine armed forces chief Romeo Brawner.
Brawner had directed soldiers to prepare for possible actions in the event of a Taiwanese invasion, suggesting that Philippine involvement would be unavoidable if such an event were to take place.
Moreover, China's foreign ministry has voiced concerns regarding the Philippines' defense and security partnerships with other countries, particularly highlighting the recent US authorization of a potential $5.58 billion sale of F-16 fighter jets to the Philippines.
The ministry stressed that such collaborations should not target or undermine the interests of any third party, nor should they threaten regional peace and security or heighten tensions in the region.
